For instance: I like to do things for others. I also like to be organized and clean. These two facts could be an indicator that I'm an F and a J. Let's say I tested as an INFJ. HOWEVER - what if my preference for being clean/organized and doing things for others was all derived from an overarching preference to hold on to my past and carry on with the tradition of my youth. My mother likes doing for others and also likes to be clean/organized. So really, it is possible that Si was masquerading as an auxiliary Fe. Which would change my type from INFJ (Ni/Fe/Ti/Se) to ISFJ (Si/Fe/Ti/Ne) (like my mother.)
"It is commonplace in typological circles to associate the feeling preference with a concern for "values." In light of the similarity of preferences and values (i.e., we prefer what we value and value what we prefer), this can appear a bit problematic. After all, T and F (as well as S and N) are preferences, and could even be construed as values, at least in a general sense." L649
